Dear Adela,
Thank you so much for your message! Galicia is one of my favorite areas. My wife Ruth and I will be visiting Lugo in March to find some more dellicious bread to import. I understand that the village of San Cristóbal de Cea has fabulous bread. Do you know of it, or any other classic crusty bread towns? You can email me at harris@tienda.com.
Abrazos

Dear Kate,
Thank you for your cordial note. The Alpujarras is one of my favorite out-of-the-way places. We spent one Christmas near Cadiar (I have published a picture of our feast in a local inn/bodega in my book The Heart of Spain: Families and Food. As we have driven around the area many times over the years, my wife Ruth has yearned to be a "temporary troglodite." Now, thanks to your generous invitation, perhaps her dream will come true next spring! Let's keep in touch and as the time gets closer we can make some substantive plans. I agree with you about tapas bars-- some of the best ones feature old men playing dominoes by the hour. I hope to see you soon.

Cordially,

Don

Next visit you will have to try and get over to Castilléjar in the Granada Province - we are definitely off the beaten track and undiscovered by tourism. We live in 'Cave country' where most of the locals live in caves (including us!). The caves keep a constant temperature all year round keeping us cool in the summer and warm in the cold winter.
My Mum, Sister and I run a cave guest house B&B. I always feature your blog posts on my website and link up to your blog/website as I find it fascinating to read.
There best 'tapas bars' in the area are the ones that the local old men use - you will find them all in there discussing the land, weather, whats growing etc etc over a small glass of homemade wine and a lovely plate of traditional tapas.
I am blessed to live in such a beautiful part of 'real Spain!'

(Fabulous itineray by the way!)

Dear Sam,
We have guindilla peppers from the Basque country. I think you might like them as they are from the same area as the town of Guernica. I prefer them too.
Are you from the Basque country? We had a student staying with us this summer from a little town near Zarautz. His family produces the great Nardín bonito hand caught in the Cantabrian Sea.
Saludos,
Don

Antonio,
You are very welcome. The history of the maestragos is a fascinating one, and the region has a mysterious beauty to it.
